First Training of Trainers in Health Informatics

Faculty from Centro Escolar University, Silliman University and UERM College of Physical Therapy, June 15-18, 2010

Six faculty members of three universities enjoyed one week of intensive hands-on instruction on the latest developments in eLearning and health informatics. Dr. Alvin Marcelo, coordinator of the Masters of Science in Health Informatics (medical informatics track), managed the training while Mr. Eric Pareja LPIC2 provided the technical content.

Building on their own experiences at the Medical Informatics Unit and the National Telehealth Center, Dr. Marcelo shared their best practice and lessons learned (including all software needed by the participants to run their own training programs).

Dr Richard Roxas, Ms Joy Mejilla, Mr Mac Anacio of CEU, Dr Edwin Agsaoay of UERM, and Dr Walden Ursos and Mr Greg Dandal from Silliman also contributed to the course by sharing their own innovations and strategies for using electronic media to enhance medical and nursing education.

At the beginning of the course, all schools were provided their own Moodle sites which they populated with the learning objects that they aleady had. They then had a day of tool sharing followed by instructions on telemedicine and CHITS (Community Health Information Tracking System). The third day was spent on OpenMRS (Level 1) and the last day on building SMS gateways and creating ad posting self-running powerpoints presentations.
