Dr. Pura Angela Wee, Coordinator for Telehealth Services, presented in The 6th Knowledge Exchange Conference on Community eCenters (KEC on CeCs) which was held in Parklane International, Cebu City last November 24-25, 2010.

The 6h KEC on CeCs is a follow-through to the five similar conferences conducted starting in 2005 to gather and provide CeC/Telecenter managers and stakeholder groups the venue for knowledge-sharing and  collaboration.  This year, it envisions to strengthen the potentials of existing CeCs for self-sufficiency, relevant to the communities they serve and a powerful tool for empowerment and participation of underdeveloped communities. More specifically, it aims to strengthen the potentials of existing Community eCenters in further delivering various services in order to capacitate and make CeCs self-sufficient, to share strategies, services and experiences  for supporting the community e-centers, to provide opportunities for dialogue and networking among CeC stakeholder groups in order to identify areas of and processes for collaboration and to participate in the second General Assembly of the members of Philippine Community eCenter Network and  elect the new sets of officers for the Executive Council

Dr Wee presented on the topic‘”How can CeCs be a Platform for Health Information Exchange.”  After explaining how use of information communications technology (ICT) has the potential to improve healthcare delivery, she then cited examples of areas how CeCs can participate in eHealth such as in providing elearning sessions, capacity building for healthworkers in ICT and supporting the rural health units. She also encouraged the CeCs to be advocates of eHealth in their own communities.

The 6th KEC on CeCs is organized by the Philippine Community eCenter Network jointly with the Commission of Information and Communication’s Technology (CICT), and the telecentre.org Foundation.
