UPM-NThC meets MMGHHSCP Federation
UPM-NThC shared experiences with its implementation and pilot research efforts with Medical Mission Group Hospitals and Health Services Cooperative Philippines (MMGHHSCP) Federation at Don Bosco Technical Institute, Makati CIty last November 26, 2010. The afternoon was also filled with information exchanges regarding efforts to promote telemedicine and implementing health record systems using free and open-source softwares. The meeting was only the start of a possible partnership between two organizations which aims to help the Filipino people to a more affordable healthcare within their reach.
The MMGHHSCP is the first health cooperative in the Philippines which started officially in January 10, 1991 in Mindanao and has spread to 21 areas all over the country. Its member chapters operate hospitals, diagnostic centers, community health financing, and drug distribution systems nationwide. The individual members of primary health cooperatives in the provinces are both health professionals and health beneficiaries as common and preferred share holders respectively. The federation is now in the process of completely computerizing all its members’ activities and is preparing to use telemedicine as a tool not only for the facilitation of communication and ease of access of information between chapter members but also to be accessed directly by the community and the individual members.
