While technology can gives us a glimpse of the future, it still cannot promise us instant miracle at present.
The July ICT4H meeting hosted by the UP Manila NTHC at the Philippine General Hospital speaks of “real” pressure when it comes to realigning proposed projects and activities in “using ICTs to achieve universal health care for all Filipinos”.
Representatives from government agencies, academic institutions, non-government organizations, and industry partners meet to review proposed information communication technology (ICTs)-related projects to improve health care in the country. Projects and activities are evaluated based on the eHealth Framework 2011-2016 as presented by Director Crispinita Valdez of the Information Management Systems Division of the Department of Health. The eHealth Framework 2011-2016 is the main output of the June ICT4H meeting.
Although the meeting unearth issues on how work must be done in each of its working groups, the ICT4H community has outlined what has to be done in the next six months:
- Perform an inventory of existing ICT4H projects
- Draft recommendations on ICT4H Vision, Strategy and Road Map, National standards for health information systems, Health Sector Enterprise Architecture, and Interoperability Framework
- Evaluate public-private partnership projects
- Promote use of ICT4H
- Monitor and evaluate ICT4H implementation
The ICT4H is a model public-private multi-sectoral collaboration which was established in November 2010.Its members are subdivided into four sub groups, namely: Enterprise Architecture headed by Dr. Emmanuel Lallana, CEO of Ideacorp, Interoperability & Standards headed by Dr. Alvin Marcelo, from PhilHealth, Capacity Building headed by Dr. Angelo Ramos of Molave Development Fund and Compliance headed by Mr. Carlo Subido of Intel Philippines).
