Ms Irma Melyani Puspitasari, Faculty of Pharmacy Universitas Padjadjaran, Jalan Bandung Sumedang, Indonesia, shared the findings on her paper entitled “Development and Clinical Implementation Experience of Paperless Prescription System with Medication Error Alerts for Community Health Center in Indonesia”.
The study which hopes to:
- address medication errors
- develop an e-prescription system in Indonesian health centers
- training healthcare staff (the users) on using ePrescprition
- evaluate the system’s usefulness on daily activities of the health care center
- raised consciousness among health care staff on commonly committed medication errors.
The system has been successfully deployed since March 2010. 26,000 patients were given appropriate medicine using ePrescription in nine months time.
According to Puspitasari, regular feedback from users allowed developers to easily improve the ePrescription system.
In the last 6 months of its deployment, no drug to drug interaction within prescription was reported. Health care staff become more careful in recommending drugs to their patients.
