Nurse Educators Keep Up with Tech for Teaching at eHealth Training

Technology is as dynamic as time…and so as education.

Manila, Philippines-September 13-16 – Nurse educators keep pace with the changing trends in technology for teaching as they participate in rigid hands-on training at the 3rd eHealth Training for Educators of the Health Professions at the National Telehealth Center.

Nurse educators from Our Lady of Fatima University-Valenzuela Campus (OLFU) were trained  in using open source software such as CHITS, OpenMRS, and MOODLE.  The three-day training started with the introduction, principles, and standards on eHealth and the basic concept on free and open source software on the first day. On the second and third day, nurse educators underwent pretest and posttest exams as well as actual training and demonstration on using the said software.

Mr. Michael Joseph Diño, nursing coordinator at OLFU, said that hopefully, he will integrate in his class a basic introduction on existing electronic medical record system in the Philippines to make his students more versatile in using these systems.

On the other hand,  Ms. Aura Ydda Alyne Toreja, OLFU nursing faculty, stated that their training in MOODLE equipped them in providing alternative ways of conducting their usual class sessions. “Quizzes, lectures, and all you need  could be delivered in a different light,” she added.

Aside from introducing OLFU faculty with new approaches in teaching, Mr. Diño expounded that the training also exposed their research team for more opportunities on studying eHealth in the country.

At the end of the training, OLFU nurse educators expressed that they are looking forward for research partnerships with the UPM NTHC.
