NTHC team learns from the ‘Father of CHITS’

Dr. Herman Tolentino, the one who started CHITS, conducts the Informatics Training in Place Program (I-TIPP) for the research staff of NTHC via video conference
The research staff of NTHC implementing CHITS or Community Health Information Tracking System began undertaking the ‘Informatics Training in Place Program (I-TIPP). I-TIPP is a pilot program of US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) designed to build public health informatics knowledge and skills of workers while they remain on their jobs. The program is currently headed by CDC’s Chief of Public Health Informatics Fellowship Program and the one who started CHITS himself, Dr. Herman Tolentino.
Dr. Tolentino conducted the course for the young brilliant minds of NTHC via video conference. “The goal is for us to gain better understanding of ‘systems approach’ to improve our implementation of CHITS,” said Arturo Ongkeko Jr., University Research Associate I and eRecords Program Manager.
Several topics will be discussed such as the use of information systems in improving population health, and identifying and solving potential informatics problems. This serves as a valuable stepping-stone as NTHC embarks on the goal of contributing to improving health outcomes in the community through the use of CHITS.
CHITS, a homegrown electronic medical record developed by University of the Philippines Manila National Institutes of Health, is now deployed to 214 health facilities nationwide.
