UPM-NThC Participates in the 43rd APMC Convention
The University of the Philippines Manila – National Telehealth Center (UPM-NThC) showcased its eHealth and Telemedicine initiatives during the 43rd Annual Convention of the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges (APMC) held last January 23, 2010 at the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center (UERMMMC) Gymnasium. The theme for this year’s convention was “Enhancing Research in the Medical Schools for National Development.
The UPM-NThC team was led by Dr. Alvin Marcelo, who demonstrated the Telemedicine (eMedicine) initiatives of the center. With him were Dr. Arthur Manzon, who explained the OpenMRS project (eRecords), and Dr. Alex Gavino, who presented the eLearning for Health initiative. A lot of participants who felt the need for implementing an electronic medical record system flocked the eRecords booth to learn how to go digital in their clinic and hospital operations. The eLearning booth also gained interest specially from community medicine professors who are exploring ways to reach remote areas cost-efficiently. Finally, the eMedicine booth was able to increase the awareness of medical professors on innovative ways of delivering health services through the use of information and communications technology (ICT).
Engineering and Computer Science projects from Ateneo de Manila University were likewise demonstrated in the exhibit area. Possible collaborations with UPM-NThC for such projects were also explored.
