RxBox Team honors top performing RHUs in Visayas

ORMOC, Leyte — The RxBox Team recognized the top performing Rural Health Units (RHUs) of the RxBox2 Research Program in the Visayas Region during the 2015 Visayas Cluster Science and Technology Fair (VCSTF) last September 24 at Ormoc Villa Hotel, Ormoc City. The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Office No. 8, together with Regions VI and VII, organized the event.
Municipal Health Officers, DOST provincial directors, and health workers from Regions VI, VII and VIII, came together in behalf of the outstanding partner municipalities.
DOST Secretary Hon. Mario Montejo led the awarding ceremony, assisted by RxBox Team Project Manager Dr. Kristine Mae Magtubo and Mayorga RHU Representative Mr. Ralph Maceda. The RHU of Mayorga, Leyte is the over-all top implementer of the program in its alpha iteration.
The RxBox2 Research Program awardees were as follows:
- Buruanga, Aklan (Region VI)
- Igbaras, Iloilo (Region VI)
- San Joaquin, Iloilo (Region VI)
- Loon, Bohol (Region VII)
- Sierra Bullones, Bohol (Region VII)
- Bobon, Northern Samar (Region VII)
- Cabucgayan, Biliran (Region VIII)
- Can-avid, Eastern Samar (Region VIII)
- Mercedes, Eastern Samar (Region VIII)
- Taft, Eastern Samar (Region VIII)
- Tanauan, Leyte (Region VIII)
- Tolosa, Leyte (Region VIII)
To date, 115 sites across the Philippines are currently implementing the RxBox program. The RxBox is an electronic healthcare platform, designed to provide better access to life-saving quality health care services in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA) nationwide. It integrates a multi-function device, an electronic medical record and telemedicine to support health workers in all the steps of the healthcare pathway.
The RxBox2 research program is led by the UP Manila-National Telehealth Center with the UP Diliman-Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute and DOST-Advanced Science and Technology Institute and is funded by the DOST through the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development and the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development.
