NTHC set to hold RTD on Biomedical Device Research: The Case of the RxBox and Implications for UP

The National Telehealth Center is holding a roundtable discussion on Biomedical Device Research: The Case of the RxBox and Implications for the University of the Philippines (UP) at the National Institutes of Health, University of the Philippines Manila on September 8, 2016.

First proposed in 2007, the RxBox is a UP Manila and UP Diliman collaboration and among the first technologies developed by UP and subjected to the technology transfer process.  The RxBox diagnostic and telemedicine device is among the components of the National Telehealth Service Program (NTSP).  The NTSP is co-developed with the Department of Health and the Department of Science and Technology to support the clinical decision-making of primary care health workers in rural remote or disadvantaged communities and link them to clinical specialists based in medical centers through telemedicine.  The RxBox research and development (R&D) to technology transfer process is already in its ninth year, and is rife with issues and lessons.

With the significant increase in R&D opportunities within the UP and the country in general, there is eagerness and excitement to pursue work in this field of remote sensing (telemedicine) and biomedical device research.
