LOS BAÑOS, Laguna — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)  Region IV-A  stepped up its celebration of the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) 2016 with the mounting of RxBox in Action Medical Mission and Corporate Social Responsibility last July 28, 2016. The celebration was spearheaded by DOST IV-A Regional Director Dr. Alexander R. Madrigal.

The half-day medical mission at Purok 7, Magnetic Hill, Barangay Timugan gathered 40 health workers from various rural health units (RHU) and partners, including the Los Baňos RHU which has been using the RxBox, physicians from the Makiling Medical Society, employees from DOST IV-A and the University of the Philippines Manila-National Telehealth Center, and residents from the municipalities of Magdalena and Bay in Laguna.

“RxBox in Action” brought the RHU’s basic services of a general consultation to the community using the biomedical device features of the RxBox. Other services offered were visual inspection using acetic acid (VIA) as part of cervical cancer screening, Ubo Caravan (sputum examination), and health lectures to over 170 clients from Purok 7, a community situated in the mountainous slope of Mt. Makiling. Designated areas were also set up for Los Baňos clients who needed RxBox’s electrocardiogram (ECG) services, and electronic fetal heart monitoring for pregnant clients.

Free medicines and food were also distributed as part of DOST IV-A’s weeklong celebration. DOST IV-A serves as the project leader of the RxBox1000 rollout in selected RHUs nationwide.
