The Department of Science and Technology Regional Office VI (Western Visayas) brought science and technology closer to the people by mounting interactive exhibits and various activities at a mall in Iloilo City during the 2016 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) on July 25 to 29, 2016.

In his keynote speech, DOST Region VI Director Rowen Gelonga said that the celebration was anchored on the theme “Juan Science, One Nation” to allow people to experience the vital role of science, technology, and innovation in improving the Filipinos’ quality of life, protecting the environment, and contributing to national development.

Director Gelonga launched the RxBox1000 Project in Western Visayas during the opening ceremonies. The RxBox biomedical device received positive feedback from those who attended, with stakeholders expressing how thrilled they were with its functionalities. There were some who also asked about purchasing the device for their municipality’s use or investing in it, although the RxBox is not yet available for distribution in the market.

The NSTW celebration in Region VI also showcased significant science and technology trends and developments, and promoted the best products of DOST-assisted micro, small, and medium enterprises in the region, including the inauguration of Western Visayas Food Innovation Center and presentation of Guimaras State College’s products and services.
