Batangas town prepares for CHITS

CHITS Level I training with participants from San Juan, Batangas and Health Action Information Network (HAIN).

Manila, Philippines – Participants from the municipality of San Juan, Batangas has undergone the Community Health Information Tracking System (CHITS) Level 1 training as preparation for the installation and training of their two Rural Health Units (RHU) slated to commence on September to October 2010.

The CHITS training were conducted at the U.P. Manila – Learning Resource Center (LRC) from August 18 to 20, 2010 with the participation of representatives from the RHUs namely Vilma V. Limpo, R.N., Arlene B. Endaya, R.N., Alex L. Buendia; and Emilyne B. De Vera and Dr. Marlene Mae R. Bermejo from Health Action Information Network (HAIN).

The two-and-a-half-days training included an overview of the health information systems in the Philippines; the eHealth initiatives of the UPM-NThC; qualities of good data; introduction to electronic health records; CHITS basic steps and advance modules; steps in CHITS deployment; budgetary requirements; administrator and technical training; and tips on expanding CHITS citywide or province-wide.

As the sole provider of training, accreditation, and services of CHITS, the UPM-NThC team provided participants with the tools in using CHITS. The trainers from UPM-NThC were Dr. Alex I. Gavino, Noel Bañez and Arturo M. Ongkeko Jr.

The project implementation of CHITS in the municipality of San Juan, Batangas will be a collaboration between the UPM-NThC with the initiative of the research undertaken by the Health Action Information Network (HAIN) under the PAN Asian Collaboration for Evidence-based eHealth Adoption and Application (PANACeA).
