Constant communication between seed grant-giving institutions and researchers is necessary to realize how projects have gone far in with any of the project objectives. This is why the UPM National Telehealth Center conducts the eHealth Colloquium last June 11 at UP Manila.
The colloquium was held “to renew ties with co-researchers in health, particularly in the various ICT applications to health (eHealth)” and to “situate the role of research grants in the advancement of eHealth” in the country. Representatives from seed grant-giving institutions like Chaitali Sinha, IDRC Senior Program Officer for Governance, Equity and Health and Karl Brown of the Rockefeller Foundation were present in the meeting.
Progress on ongoing and finished projects and research were presented.
Dr. Jonathan Galingan of the Philippine General Hospital Information Systems Office discussed how openMRS, have been implemented in Mambusao Distric Hospital and Bailan District Hospital in Capiz while Ms. Irma Saligumba, RN, MPH of Molave Development Foundation (MDF) presented results of the Safe Motherhood Program in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro and findings on Rural Remote Consultation in Kasibu, Nueva Viscaya and Quezon, Quezon.

Dr. Marlene Mae R. Bermejo, of the Health Action Information Network discussed key finding on Intervention Research on eHealth for the Visually Impaired eHealth, an exploratory studies into the health need of the visually impaired
Dr. Nimrod Firaza of UPM NThC talks on e-TBDC: Using Telehealth to Provide Expertise to Remote and Underserved Areas in the Philippine
Colloquium participants share experiences and insights with their respective project involvements. They agreed that many of the challenges in their studies deal on how innovations can build people’s capacities to use proposed technologies to improve their health related behavior and practices.
